The Start of Bakers with T podcast

A few months, if you would have asked me if I would start my own podcast, I would probably look at you crazy.

Over the past few months, I have been participating in the NDSU Nice Leap Program, where I had spent ten weeks working on a new venture of creating a baking podcasting.

My journey of researching and developed this podcast has honestly felt like a roller coaster. I had reached out to multiple bakers around the Fargo-Moorhead area, as well as the Twin Cities, but I got very few responses. It personally took a lot out of me to reach out to these businesses because I personally do not know who these bakery owners are. Because of this problem I had, I decided that I needed to think outside of the box, so I decided to reach out to bakers by using the app, Pinterest. I decided Pinterest would be a great website out to bakers because I personally know that this app is some form of a baking hub. Pinterest caters to a lot of people from all over the world that has different kinds of interest from food, clothing, DIY Hacks, and a whole lot more. I mostly use my Pinterest account to find baking recipes that I can use, or inspiration to use at gatherings and potlucks.

While I was searching for people to interview for my researching stage, I ended up finding a former bakery owner turned into Blogger named Neda. She owned a bakery named Sugar Monkey Cupcakes. Me and Neda had a great conversation about how she got into baking then blogging, from our conversation, I knew she would be a great fit for the first episode for my podcast.

After I interview Neda over zoom, I had to learn a new set of skills of editing for podcasting. I found it weird to edit the recording of the first episode cause I have done video editing for classes or presentations in the past, but never editing of a recording. Because of the interview being over Zoom and having some background noises, I luckily had a software to perfect the sound of the recording. From there, I then used Anchor to upload my recording, add background music, and trimmed some more of the recording to make the full episode complete.

During my final victory lap of this program, I had some great things that happen from making this podcast. After I made the first episode public, I posted the link to my Instagram, Snapchat, email, and etc. I was surprise with the amount of people that listened to that one episode. I had a fear that I was not going to get enough audience in my age group. Another thing I am celebrating is that I got the opportunity to showcase my podcast during the Leap showcase. I was really nervous to tell the story of my Leap because I was worried of missing a detail in my story, or that I would talking to quick that no one would understand. But even with the cold feet I got before my presentation, I nailed it. I even gotten a few suggestions on who I can interview for my show next.

Now that I have made the first episode of my podcast, another challenge that I am facing is getting more bakers on my show. I have gotten a couple bakers booked for my show for after the holidays, but now I need to make more episodes and be more consistent on publishing them to the public. I have been reaching out to bakeries near me and baking blogs on the internet, but getting little to no response. At this point, I am still reaching out to bakers. Overall, this has been a great experience for me personally, I did not see myself actually starting a podcast this year, and I feel that I have personally grew from this experience.
